Study on affordable housing financing in Africa
Project Details
AHI conducted a cross-country study to investigate housing markets and investment opportunities in 5 countries: South Africa, Kenya, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Morocco. Divided into two phases, the project aimed at developing high-level country profiles, and profiling and screening investment opportunities on the supply side (private housing developers, REITS) in all five markets. We provided a general overview of affordable housing and ways to finance its supply, developed a benchmark of DFIs and investment players in these markets, and identified potential interventions for Proparco. The project's second phase consisted of supporting the financial and legal structuring of a potential Proparco loan to finance a real estate developer leading an affordable housing project in Senegal, focusing on financial and legal structuring terms including collateral package options.
