Support for the development of a model for the management and financing of social rental housing in Ecuador
Project Details
AHI conducted a study aimed at supporting the development of a social rental housing policy in Ecuador. One of the main components of the assignment consisted of the development of a pilot project to be carried out in Ambato, through the conversion of an old MIDUVI building in the center of the city into social rental housing.
For the pilot project, a detailed transaction model and management framework were developed, encompassing aspects such as administration, social management, maintenance, tenancy conditions, household composition, and more. A financial assessment was also conducted, outlining the projected costs and revenues of the designed models, as well as the estimated development expenses based on the architectural plans.
Finally, a study was conducted to establish the foundational conditions for the pilot project, with the intention of replicating it at a national scale within the framework of a social rental housing policy. Furthermore, our team developed a roadmap detailing the steps required to establish this national policy. A climate note was also prepared, addressing the policy's environmental aspects and the pilot project’s sustainability. Finally, socialization workshops were held in Quito to promote the proposed national rental policy across Ecuador.
