Impact Investing

In 2011, AHI received seed funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to set up the Aarohi Fund, an impact fund that invests in promising, early-stage housing entities according to the following theory of impact:

  1. Quality affordable housing is the product of a healthy housing ecosystem where each step of the supply and demand side value-chains functions efficiently.
  2. Housing ecosystems evolve as a result of Mission Entrepreneurial Entities (MEEs), defined as mission-driven, entrepreneurial, financially viable entities in the business of creating a critical housing product or service.
  3. MEEs need both capital and advice to grow. Thus, the Aarohi Fund offers responsive, cost-effective capital alongside the Affordable Housing Institute's advice in the areas of organizational development, strategy, capital raising, housing policy, and housing finance.

In 2014, Aarohi Fund closed its first investment in Sewa Grih Rin, a non-bank housing finance company for low-income, informal populations in India.

Aarohi is currently seeking investment opportunities. For more information, please visit www.aarohifund.org.
