Senate Subcommittee Holds Hearing on Santorum Bill
On July 18, the Senate Housing Subcommittee held a hearing on S. 2733, the "Affordable Housing for Seniors and Families Act", a bill proposed by Senator Rick Santorum (R- PA). The hearing included testimony by Recap's president, David A. Smith. Smith's testimony focused on housing preservation issues including Mark to Market, Renewed Affordability, resident protections, and the role of non-profit intermediaries. Others testifying in support of the bill included William C. Apgar (HUD), Dr. Laverne Joseph (AAHSA), Michelle H. Norris (NAHMA), Edward Shapoff (Health Care Finance Study Group), Mary Jane O'Gara (AARP), and Ronell Guy (North Side Coalition for Fair Housing).
