AHI has signed an agreement to advise and support the Mohammad Bin Rashid Housing Establishment (MRHE) in its efforts to design a long term affordable housing policy for Dubai's local population. AHI will provide MRHE with strategic guidance in shaping their affordable housing policy based on extensive research and analysis, alternative policies, and international examples of innovative government housing entities.
MRHE is an independent public institution founded in 2006 under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to provide a wide range of housing solutions for nationals of Dubai.
Commenting on the agreement, AHI's David Smith said: “Even a nation as affluent and progressive as Dubai faces complicated challenges in affordable housing, because urbanization leads to high land prices and high expectations. Creating a ten-year strategic plan for the Establishment requires envisioning how Dubai will grow and change and therefore how affordable housing can be fitted into that vision.”

AHI's David Smith and Ernst & Young's Gus Freeman are co-directing a workshop to be held at the 2012 Gulf Research Meeting, at the University of Cambridge, UK, from July 11-14.
The workshop entitled "Housing Markets and Policy Design in the Gulf Region" aims to explore the Gulf region's housing systems, develop an understanding of the key challenges facing them, frame the fundamental questions that need to be addressed and move towards identifying a recommended housing policy framework for the region, taking into account national differences.
This workshop will discuss papers from academics, government policy makers and researchers from private sector organizations operating in the region. Papers include case studies, comparative studies, conceptual papers and empirical analyses from the various countries of the GCC.
AHI's Maysa Sabah Shocair and Mohamad Humaid Al Marri, Assistant CEO, Finance and Corporate Support, the Mohammad Bin Rashid Housing Establishment are co-authoring a paper to be presented at the workshop entitled "Outsourcing Finance: Setting the Boundaries, Defining the Rules."
